About Us
Founded in 1927, Tabaqueira has been a subsidiary of Philip Morris International (PMI) in Portugal since 1997. Tabaqueira is the largest company in the sector in Portugal and is currently one of the Group's main production centres, as well as the headquarters of PMI's Global Departments and Positions, such as Leaf, which supports good agricultural practices in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, or the IT Hub, which develops software applications for various international markets. Located in Sintra, Portugal's second most populous municipality, Tabaqueira is one of the municipality's largest employers, employing around 1,500 workers, and a structuring company for the local economy. In 2023, the Tabaqueira/PMI Group exported 89 per cent of its production, making it one of Portugal's largest exporters (in the TOP 10).
